Sensory Friendly Play

Low-sensory playtime at the Children's Museum designed for children and families who benefit from expanded accessibility. The event includes a calm, less crowded environment with designated quiet rooms, adaptive equipment, and adaptive art tools. Service providers, therapists, and service pets are welcome. Regular admission rates apply.

Brookings: Fall Music Makers

Fall Music Makers, a rhythm-and-movement class for caregivers and their children ages 5 and under, meets at Brookings Public Library starting September 14 from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. It's a multi-week class, and a music kit will be checked out to participants at the first session for use throughout the series.

Brookings: Tween the Pages Book Club - Group 2

Tween the Pages Book Club meets at the library on September 16 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m., with a second session offered the same month for kids who can't make this date. The group is for students in grades 4 and 5, and this month's pick is "You and Me and The Land of Lost Things" by Andy Griffiths. Kids can pick up a copy of the book at the circulation desk ahead of the meeting, then discuss it over snacks. Sign up for one of the two sessions per month.

Kids Night In + Parents Night Out

Children ages 5 to 12 spend Friday evening and Saturday morning at the museum doing hands-on creative work in the Maker Studio, including robotics, circuits, sculpture, and painting. Games, stories, and free exploration fill the time. Parents can enjoy an evening out while their children are supervised. A sack supper should be brought.

A Halloween tie-pillow craft workshop runs Monday, September 21 at 6:00 PM through Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 PM at the Brookings Public Library. Elementary-aged kids can make their own pillows to take home. Registration is through the library's event calendar.
